Jo Russell

Jo Russell presents the breakfast show for Free Radio in Wolverhampton, The Black Country & Shropshire, with a mix of the best pop and her own brand of irresistible, infectious chat.. Prior to this Jo presented the weekday drive time show on Free Radio Birmingham.

Jo started learning how the world of radio worked with her first job at York Hospital Radio.  Her first professional position in radio was at Stray FM in Harrogate before moving to overnights at Minster FM in York.  Demonstrating her dedication to radio, Jo worked the overnight shifts as well as holding down a full time job in insurance.  A completely sleep-deprived Jo was hailed as the ‘hardest worker alive’.

After a year in York, Jo got a job as the Breakfast Show presenter at Ram FM in Derby where she stayed for 3 years before being promoted within the radio group to breakfast at Trent FM.  It was here that she, and her on-air partner in crime Twiggy, cemented her position as one of radios rising stars.  In their on-air life together, Jo and Twiggy spent 10 years at the helm of Trent FM’s breakfast show winning many awards and fans in the process.

Jo was then asked to present at Absolute Radio every Saturday and Sunday morning for a year before she moved to her current position at BRMB- now Free Radio.

Throughout her career, Jo has been nominated for an amazing 27 awards and has won 17 of those, including an impressive four Sony Awards.  She is the current holder of Commercial Radio Presenters of the Year (Arquiva) and Best Breakfast Show in Europe (European Radio Awards).

Jo joined Absolute Radio in October 2008 where she presented 3 early breakfast shows and 2 weekend mid-morning shows, until 2010, when she joined BRMB to host her own breakfast show.
